PERSONAL GUIDANCE


INTRODUCTION
            Personal guidance includes personal psychological or emotional relationship which is a person develops himself. Paterson has included social, emotional and leisure time guidance in personal guidance. In fact, the problems regarding
health, emotional adjustment, social adjustment and leisure and recreational problems are included in personal solution.
            Under social adjustment and individual’s economic problems are included. The aspects of life’s character and spiritual fields can also be included in  the personal guidance. In other words, the problems which cannot be included in personal guidance. In other words, the problems which cannot be included in educational and vocational guidance, we can included them in personal guidance.
MEANING AND DEFINITIONS OF PERSONAL GUIDANCE
            According to Hopkins, “ personal guidance is that guidance which is concerned with the problem of health, emotional adjustment and social adjustment of an individual. It also includes his recreational and leisure-time problems”.
            According to Ruth strang. “ personal guidance is the assistance given to an individual to solve his personal problems such  as emotional and social adjustment, economic and social relationship and problems connected with his physical as well as mental health”.
NEED AND IMPORTANCE OF PERSONAL GUIDANCE
            Personal guidance is needed in case of personal problems. It aims at social and emotional well being of the pupils.
            There are certain personal problems that need guidance and require personal guidance. They are,
i.Problem concerning with physical health
ii. Problem concerning mental health
iii. Family problems
iv. School problems
v. Vocational problems
vi. Marital problems
vii. Sex problems
viii. Personality problems
ix. Religious problems
x.  Economic problems
            It may be stated that the children with personal problems are able to adjusted to society and lead a normal life in the community, if he personal guidance is provided them.

OBJECTIVES OF PERSONAL GUIDANCE
            1. To assist the individual gradually to develop life goals that are socially desirable and individually satisfying.
            2. To help him to plan life so that these goals may be attained and to integrate his activities with reference to those goals.
            3. To assist the pupil to realize that it is natural to experience period of turmoil.
            4. To help him grow in self-directive ability.
            5. To give the individual the assistance that will enable him overcomes the awkward years in physical development.
            6. To encourage the pupil to work to the limit of   his  capacity with full knowledge that he may not be as capable as other pupils.
            7. To assist the pupil to move gradually from dependence on other to independence of judgement and action.
            8. To assist students to understand and resolve their emotional problems.
            9. To assist students in exploring various mechanisms of adjustment.
            10. To assist students to improve mental health.
            11. To help students to improve mental health.
            12. To assist in learning and developing life skills.
            13. To identify personal and social aspects that is hindering the normal development of the child.
            14. To help the students in minimizing the gaps between personal aspiration and social demands.

            15. To help the individual to develop to his fullest competencies and be a good citizen.
